The Tripped

Hands down these guys put in some work for this video and it paid off. What grabbed my interest was how creative each rider’s part was. Creativity and diversity amongst riders and the tricks they pull is makes the video worth watching, which is why I enjoyed the video from beginning to end. Each rider did their own thing which is what made the video unique. http://thetripped.com/

Fat Beats Closes The Last Two Stores

For those who aren’t in the loop Fat Beats which is a renowned landmark in Hip Hop music is closing the doors on its last two stores which are in LA and NYC. I was there on Thursday for one of the many in stores which they were giving from then all the way up until Saturday which will be its last day open. From here on you can get your favorite independent and classic Hip Hop albums through there online store. https://fatbeats.com/catalog/ I’ve left you a video of the DJ Eclipse who runs the NY store. In the video he gives you a little history on how it all came about and I’ve left you a video from Saturday’s show where DJ Premiere killed it as usual. I also got some pics of Of Eclipse and Emcee’s: Torae, Skyzoo, and the legendary Rock who are all under the Duck Down record label and were in the building Thursday night. http://www.duckdown.com/website/index.html Along with them was producer Ill Mind. http://www.myspace.com/illmind They were all signing albums and just kicking it the place that supports their music along with the fans who do so as well. As a Hip Hop head I personally will miss this place because they have just about any Hip Hop album that you’ll ever need and if you need to order it they would be the ones who could find rare albums that no other record store could get. I also really dug the vibe there. It was always positive and energetic. I really appreciated the in stores because you could get right up close with the artist who you’ve come to love and support. I think Fat Beats brought everyone together and was a source of inspiration for me and many other artists who walked through the door. This is why the store will be lost but never forgotten. You can check out their blog for even more info on the company. http://fatbeats.com/blog/

Every other Monday the owners of some visually stunning vehicles come out to show what they’ve put time and effort in, to compete for the respect and the prize of winning the best car on the lot. I was out there this past Monday and I enjoyed myself. Creatively, what you can do with these cars is limitless I was impressed with all of the vehicles that were there. American Hardcore

American Hardcore is an astonishing documentary which gives you a concrete explanation of how Punk Rock came about. It tells it like it is and doesn’t hold anything back. The film also gives you a piece of history on what was happening in politics and subculture at that time. Here’s a link where you can add the video to your own collection plus you can check out photos, music, and much more. http://www.sonyclassics.com/americanhardcore/

The OSS Premiere

From beginning to end the video was filled with bangers and dudes who I’d say rode street almost as if they were riding a skate park. Needless to say each rider delivered some amazing footage. I snap a few pics from the event which as the flyer states was at Post Bike Shop http://www.postbikes.com/ and I also got some more pics from the after party which took place at the Wreck Room like around the corner from Post. Also check the Face Book for pics http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=18978&id=100001204909956 You can check out a couple the videos from the premiere on The Come Up. http://thecomeupbmx.net/ you can also check the team’s site at http://ossbmx.com/news/

Fat Back band

Along with groups like the Sugar Gang, The Fat Back band is on first few groups to put out a hip hop music I know its dumb old school but their music still to this day represents hard for what hip hop is all about.

This is for the De La Soul listeners. I know this is an old clip but I thought it was pretty dope the way they explain how they break down how the process in which they develop their music.

Daimen Walters

I stumbled upon this video of Daimen Walters Performing maneuvers which I didn’t think was humanly possible with out strings or special effects. Professionals at parkour like Dainmen are prime examples of how far you can push the body if your dedicated to what you.

Tokyo Police Club

The Tokyo Police Club happens to be one of my favorite bands at the moment, I’m always looking for any new realeases that they’ll drop over the web. Nike Standby

Nike had an all out street competition between various European countries and the United States, which took place all through out the city of Barcelona. In the end it was France that took the cake and at the same time produced some really awesome footage.

Kid Enzo

I was fortunate enough to have Q and A with B-boy Kid Enzo. One thing about Kid Enzo that grabbed my attention was how unique his style is. He’s always instep with the music and he expresses so much character in every move he executes. As a spectator he’ll keep you on your toes as you try to anticipate what his next move may be. bboy-enzo

-The Interveiw-

1).When and why did you get into
break dancing?

I got into breaking in my junior year of high school. Around the year 99 or 2000 I got into the dance when my boy b-boy stylez was practicing in his living room one day and he taught me some moves. From then on, I was hooked.

2).How did you get the name Kid Enzoe?

That’s sort of a long story, but I’ll try to cut it short. Basically, I had a crush on this girl in high school and she nicknamed me Enzoe. Around the same time my first crew was forming and we were all picking out b-boy names for ourselves. I liked the name Kid because “Kid” was used as slang in New York City pretty often. So I put it together and came up with “Kid Enzoe” I started introducing myself and entering competitions with the name and it just stuck wit me till today.

3).Where did you grow and learn the most
as a break dancer?

I can definitely say that I learned the most about breaking in Philadelphia. I learned how to dance and straight up feel the music. I also learned about foundation which is the basics of breaking from an old school b-boy called Z no Zeen.

4).What B-boy in the game inspires you to try
new things?

The game involves the whole world so there is a lot of talent out there and I get inspiration from all types of b-boys because it seems like everyone has something to bring to the table with their style. But, if I had to choose I would have to name a couple that I prefer: Kmel, b-boy Casper, b-boy Ivan, and Ronnie Ruen. I can go on and on but I tend to like b-boys that have that “flava” ill b-boy style if you know what I mean, Funky.

5). what’s your take on the break scene now?

I think the breaking scene is dope right now. A lot of b-boys are on top of their game. For awhile a lot of heads were struggling with dancing and the all around basics of the art form, but now there are kids coming out of nowhere with all around skills having both power and style. It’s a beautiful thing.

6).In what areas would you like to see yourself grow as a dancer?

I would like to see myself grow as a dancer in every single way. I’m very hard on myself because I’m never satisfied. Constantly, I am always trying to learn a new skill for competitions. For some breakers, hard moves come easily because of their flexibility or just their overall ability to execute them. For me, I have to work hard to get what I have, whether its dance ability or any of the other skills involved. But as far as growth I’d like to progress in every area of Breaking.

7).What is you doing to get there?

I’m practicing almost everyday and entering mostly 1 on 1 competitions nation wide.

8).Through your traveling what area would say is the most energetic and promotes creativity when it comes to breaking?

I can’t narrow it down to one place. Every where I have gone has their own creativity. That’s the beauty of it. The east coast, west coast, mid-west, and etc; all have a way that they express the dance and that’s what makes it ill.

9). For someone who is just getting into breaking what would you say is the most vital asset to have while you’re learning new things and developing your own style?

That’s an easy one, foundation. What I mean by foundation is the basics of top-rock, footwork, and power moves. What breaking provides is the start. From then on, everything else is up to you. However you want to interpret and express is up to you. I hope that helps.

Disco Wiz

Disco Wiz is Hip Hop’s first Latino DJ. He also was heavily involved in the construction of the foundation of the culture and the art form. Very few deserve the title of being considered a legend in Hip Hop and he happens to be one of those who definitely have earned and who deserves that title. He has a new book out now called “It’s Just Begun”.the book he not only just talks about hip hop but also gives a thorough explanation of what life was like growing up in Bronx, New York City, during the 70’s. The book will surely hold your interest as Wiz breaks down all of the exciting events and situations that he encountered in his life as DJ and as a Bronx, New York native. Plus it is interesting to see how each situation has brought him to where he is today. High Water Music

is one of the few music labels that are making a big impact in the Independent Hip-Hop scene. They have been fortunate enough to have signed some very diligent and talented artists who are doing positive things in Hip-Hop. Recently Artists DJ Spinna and Fresh Daily have both released albums this summer. Spinna’s album “Sonic Smash” is his first Hip-Hop album in 10 years and from beginning to end Spinna has filled the album with some astonishing instrumentals while some of Hip Hop’s Illest MCs flowed over the tracks. Fresh’s album “The Gorgeous Killer Crimes Of Passion”, is another heavy hitter. I’d have to say that Fresh’s Spinna’s album is a natural blend of his cleaver word play, cross references, and some real dope instrumentals. To add I’d say that his album is just smooth, as each track flows from one song to the other; that’s why it’s one of my favorite releases of the year. Both albums are excellently crafted and are both a must have in your collection. You can purchase the albums and check out High Water Music here http://highwaterismusic.com I’ve also left you a couple videos to watch so you can see what these phenomenal artists have to bring to the table.

Homeboy Sandman

Homeboy Sandman is an ill MC from the High Water music crew is. In my opinion I’d say that he’s one of the most creative and lyrically gifted mc’s I’ve listened to in a while. His flow is fluent and clear. He is definitely a versatile MC as he covers a broad range of subjects in his rhymes. Through his descriptive details and unique play of words he’s able to pull his listeners into the topic and keep them intrigued. I personally enjoy the way his flow naturally harmonizes with the instrumentals. You can check him out at www.homeboysandman.com and www.highwaterismusic.com I’ve also left a couple videos for you to peep.

Fashawn

Coming straight out of East Fresno California is an MC named Fashawn. This dude is young, talented, and is one of those MC’s who track after track consistently supplies his listeners with good music. His lyrics are sophisticated, original and direct. He’s versatile as he is able to tackle a broad range of topics in his music. Many of his songs are delivered so well, that it’s very much like hearing a well organized story. Through his detailed descriptions of the events in his music, he gives his listeners a vivid idea of what’s happening, and pulls you in from the beginning of the song all the way to the end. This dude is only 20 years old but his capabilities definitely surpass his age. He is on top of his game and I’m eager to see how his skills will progress as he continues to make moves with his music. You can check out Fashawn at http://www.fashawn.net, http://www.myspace.com/fashawn, and http://www.imeem.com/fashawn I’ve also left you a video to check out.

Strictly Beats and Blue Sky Black Death

For all those mc’s and singers who need something to flow too and to those who just enjoy instrumentals you should go check out http://strictlybeats.blogspot.com/ There are some really good tunes there along with some interesting art work to view while you enjoy the music. I’ve left you a video by Blue Sky Black Death, who happens to be a featured artist on the site. This is a music video to the song “Chloroform”, which is on their album “A Heap of Broken Images”. Another I enjoy from the album is “Skies Open”, but you could also check out the group out on their Myspace page http://www.myspace.com/blueskyblackdeath

Ian Reid

It doesn’t matter whether you skate or bike, if you’re sessioning in the streets you’ll find some pretty unusual and challenging places to session and at the same time you’ll encounter some very unique individuals and become a witness to some of the things that most people only hear about in a city. There are many videos out there that show street riders and skaters throwing down some of the hottest lines you’ll see on video but there are few videos that incorporate the elements that are around you while you’re out there putting in work. That’s until videographers like Ian Reid stepped onto the scene. In his videos Ian goes outside of the realm of just skating to give you an idea of what happens from time to time while you’re out there sessioning and traveling to different places. In his videos he does an excellent job of capturing experienced skate boarders shredding the streets and what happens on their trips to various cities in the US and some cities around the world. Besides being a videographer Ian is also a phenomenal photographer, you can check out his photos and a few more of his videos at www.ianreidsvideo.com and I’ve left you the trailer to one of his videos.

Step up and Get Smoked

If you’re ever in Bergenfield NJ and you’re a dancer you should definitely go check out Creative Image, they’re located at 36 South Washington Ave. Besides being a dance studio they also specialize in photography, video, printing, and advertising. If you need any of that type of stuff done, definitely give them a holla. On April 11, Creative Image through a Jam; where some of the illest dancers came out to have a good time and compete. The name of the jam was “Step Up Or Get Smoked”. The vibe was very inviting and energetic. All those that competed were on point and it was real dope to see how each dancer pushed each other to bring their A game to the floor. Plus the beats were on point. There was a lot of competition on the floor and everyone that competed definitely gave it their best which brought a unique charge to the event. Here are a couple videos and a few pix for you to enjoy

Voices Bmx

I know it’s been out for a while but every time I watch the Voices Bmx video it inspires me and grabs my attention as if I’m watching it for the first time. The music is good and all of the footage is consistent with its riders delivering some of the biggest and smoothest lines filmed on the streets of the UK. Each rider’s drive to put 100% of their effort into their section is what really produced the high quality footage seen in this film. You can check the whole video out at http://www.pinkbike.com/video/25138/ I’ve left the parts of Dan Cox and Josh Bedford. These were two riders who

grabbed my attention in the film.

Parkour

Parkour is a fascinating sport which requires an enormous amount of mental and physical strength. You mentally have to have the confidence and the capability to see pass the obstacle which before you so that you can safely and efficiently reach your destination. To prepare yourself physically for this enriching activity you would have to train rigorously, so that your body may be capable of performing all of the challenges which are before you in your environment. This sport also requires a great deal of creativity as you will have to strategize where you would like land and what method you will use to accomplish that goal. I’ve left a couple videos for you to check out and after your done looking at those you should check out http://www.urbanclimbermag.com/ this site give you an update on what is happening in the Parkour scene.

Battle Zone

This past weekend Steelo hosted “Battle Zone: Style Elements Anniversary”. The event was held at the Chuccos Justice Center in IngleWood CA. Mad heads came out to be apart of the event, battle other dancers, and see both the legendary Kmel and Remind go head to head. Even though there was a great turn out and there was a lot of love and energy in the building the only complaint that I’ve heard from over and over was that the music being played made it difficult to move too. That actually played a big part in why the long awaited battle between Kmel and Remind was cut short.
