Occupy Union Square
For years Union Square Park has been a place where you could kick back, chill, meet new people, and observe the city with out having to worry about keeping up with traffic. For many bmxers and skaters it’s a place where they’ve congregated after an intense session or a meeting ground before everyone takes off. Recently the Occupy Wall street protest has moved there organization to the Union taking over the whole park. Here’s how a couple bmx riders feel about it.

Homeboy Sandman and I Am Many & Logik Proof
Homeboy Sandman and I Am Many & Logik Proof threw an intense show at the Hiro Ball room recently. Homeboy Sandman and I Am Many & Logik Proof both have new releases out, which vary in content, melody, and tempo but both offer creative and complex lyricism through out each of their albums. However I personally found an interest in Homeboy Sandman’s new release. He uses clever word play to tackle various topics and delivers each subject in away which motivates the listener to think. Plus the blend between his voice and the rhythmic instrumentals makes this album a melodic composition that is pleasing to the ear. Click the links to check out and purchase the albums. Way Up There

The Williamsburg Bridge is a unique structure with plenty of welded beams that form many geometric shapes. This aerialist did something wich I would have never would of pondered anyone would have the gumption to do, which is climb towards the top of the bridge put on a dynamic show for everyone below. I really wish I there to see it live.

Skavenger’s New vid
The Skavenger crew just dropped their second video and as always from beginning to end its packed with some of the smoothes and technical riders from up and down the east coast and now with the video some riders on the west riders also got a chance to shine. What I like is that the lines pulled were clean and even creative. Plus the parts weren’t that long so they hit with a lot of good tricks in short time which helps keeps the viewers engaged as the video transitions from one part to the next. They posted the full version online so with out any further delay check it out you will be impressed.

The Night Hawk Theater is bringing back the big screen to Williamsburg Brooklyn. J-Dilla documentary
The name speaks for its self and if you don’t know J-Dill is possibly one of the greatest producers to make music in hiphop. His vision and skills in how he understood and created his music is what did and still set him apart from so many producers in the genre. I came across this vid and wanted to share with you why so many people respected him as one of the best in the game.

The Big Pay Back

Dan Charnas just recently dropped a billion dollars worth of info in his new book “The Big Pay Back”. In this book he unveils just about all of the untold and very valuable information that pertains to the history and economics of the hip hop industry. He also gets into detail on how hip hop artists, entertainers, executives, and record labels struggled and pushed forward to get hip hop into the fore front of what is considered popular music in this country and all over the world. He starts at the very origins that made hip hop music an art form and then caries you through a time line which leads all the way up unto where hip hop is as a culture and an art form in today’s day and age. He also gets into how hip hop has affected various industries in entrainment and even the products that we use and consume are marketed. Through out all of the stories presented in the book you will see how hip hops influence eventually gained its rightful acceptance in the eye and hearts of the general public. People trust me if you are in anyway affected by hip hop’s influence you need to spend some time with this book there is a wealth of useful information in here and I personally am glad that Dan followed through and was the first to released a book of this caliber. For more info check out his most recent interview with Noah Zark on Coffee Break for Heroes and Villains http://www.wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=38455&archive=65652. In the interview he gets more into the specifics of the book. You can also check out his site here http://www.dancharnas.com/

American Hardcore

American Hardcore is an astonishing documentary which gives you a concrete explanation of how Punk Rock came about. It tells it like it is and doesn’t hold anything back. Throw Back De La Soul Video

This is for the De La Soul listeners. I know this is an old clip but I thought it was pretty dope the way they explain how they break down how the process in which they develop their music.

Daimen Walters

I stumbled upon this video of Daimen Walters Performing maneuvers which I didn’t think was humanly possible with out strings or special effects. Professionals at parkour like Dainmen are prime examples of how far you can push the body if your dedicated to what you.

Breeze and Rabbi Darkside

Breeze and Rabbi Darkside gave a show a while back and digging though my videos I found this.

Kid Enzo

I was fortunate enough to have Q and A with B-boy Kid Enzo. One thing about Kid Enzo that grabbed my attention was how unique his style is. He’s always instep with the music and he expresses so much character in every move he executes. As a spectator he’ll keep you on your toes as you try to anticipate what his next move may be.

-The Interveiw-

1).When and why did you get into
break dancing?

I got into breaking in my junior year of high school. Around the year 99 or 2000 I got into the dance when my boy b-boy stylez was practicing in his living room one day and he taught me some moves. From then on, I was hooked.

2).How did you get the name Kid Enzoe?

That’s sort of a long story, but I’ll try to cut it short. Basically, I had a crush on this girl in high school and she nicknamed me Enzoe. Around the same time my first crew was forming and we were all picking out b-boy names for ourselves. I liked the name Kid because “Kid” was used as slang in New York City pretty often. So I put it together and came up with “Kid Enzoe” I started introducing myself and entering competitions with the name and it just stuck wit me till today.

3).Where did you grow and learn the most
as a break dancer?

I can definitely say that I learned the most about breaking in Philadelphia. I learned how to dance and straight up feel the music. I also learned about foundation which is the basics of breaking from an old school b-boy called Z no Zeen.

4).What B-boy in the game inspires you to try
new things?

The game involves the whole world so there is a lot of talent out there and I get inspiration from all types of b-boys because it seems like everyone has something to bring to the table with their style. But, if I had to choose I would have to name a couple that I prefer: Kmel, b-boy Casper, b-boy Ivan, and Ronnie Ruen. I can go on and on but I tend to like b-boys that have that “flava” ill b-boy style if you know what I mean, Funky.

5). what’s your take on the break scene now?

I think the breaking scene is dope right now. A lot of b-boys are on top of their game. For awhile a lot of heads were struggling with dancing and the all around basics of the art form, but now there are kids coming out of nowhere with all around skills having both power and style. It’s a beautiful thing.

6).In what areas would you like to see yourself grow as a dancer?

I would like to see myself grow as a dancer in every single way. I’m very hard on myself because I’m never satisfied. Constantly, I am always trying to learn a new skill for competitions. For some breakers, hard moves come easily because of their flexibility or just their overall ability to execute them. For me, I have to work hard to get what I have, whether its dance ability or any of the other skills involved. But as far as growth I’d like to progress in every area of Breaking.

7).What is you doing to get there?

I’m practicing almost everyday and entering mostly 1 on 1 competitions nation wide.

8).Through your traveling what area would say is the most energetic and promotes creativity when it comes to breaking?

I can’t narrow it down to one place. Every where I have gone has their own creativity. That’s the beauty of it. The east coast, west coast, mid-west, and etc; all have a way that they express the dance and that’s what makes it ill.

9). For someone who is just getting into breaking what would you say is the most vital asset to have while you’re learning new things and developing your own style?

That’s an easy one, foundation. What I mean by foundation is the basics of top-rock, footwork, and power moves. What breaking provides is the start. From then on, everything else is up to you. However you want to interpret and express is up to you. I hope that helps.
